Pavilion Showcases UN's Work on "Living Ocean and Coast" at Expo 2012 [viewed]
12 May 2012: The UN Pavilion has opened at the International Exposition 2012 (Expo 2012) in Yeosu, Republic of Korea, under the theme "Oceans and Coasts: Connecting Our Lives, Ensuring Our Future—The Choice is Yours." The Expo is the first international exposition focusing on ocean, coasts and islands in international recognition of their role, and is organized around the overall theme "The Living Ocean and Coast: Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities."
8 May 2012: An Informal Ministerial Roundtable on Climate Change brought together representatives from 30 countries, including from least developed countries (LDCs) and the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), to build on the achievements of the Durban Climate Change Conference. The meeting, which was hosted by the EU, also provided an opportunity for Ministers to discuss the upcoming UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).
8 May 2012: The EC launched €34.8 million in funding to support Eco-Innovation, an initiative designed to bring to market eco-innovative products, services and processes that prevent environmental impacts or improve resource use. The call for applications focuses on five priority areas: materials recycling; water; sustainable building products; green business; and the food sector. 
3 May 2012: The World Bank published a book titled, “Sustainable Low-Carbon City Development in China,” offering practical lessons to policymakers in China to organize and coordinate sustainable low-carbon urban development.
May 2012: As part of the ongoing synergies process among the chemicals and wastes conventions, Jim Willis, Joint Executive Secretary of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal (Basel Convention), the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) (Stockholm Convention), and the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade (Rotterdam Convention), has posted the first quarterly management oversight report for 2012.
24 April 2012: The Swedish Minister for Environment, Lena Ek, has released a declaration of intent, titled “Towards the 2020 Goal of Sound Chemicals Management,” in response to the outcomes of the Global Stakeholder Dialogue 8 years - 8 actions, an event dedicated towards achieving the 2020 goal. The declaration was launched in tandem with the Stockholm+40 Partnership Forum, in Stockholm, Sweden, on 24 April.
24 April 2012: On the occasion of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the International Labour Organization (ILO) has launched a report titled “Promoting safety and health in a green economy,” which stresses the need for the greening of the economy to be accompanied by the integration of workplace safety and health measures.
20 April 2012: The European Environment Agency (EEA) invited people born around 1992 in Europe to demonstrate their visions for sustainable futures, to highlight the 20th anniversary of the UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED, or Rio Earth Summit) held in 1992, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The entries use animation, journalism, fiction and video montages to communicate messages about sustainable development.
19 April 2012: EU Environment Ministers convened in an informal Environment Council to discuss the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20), during which they underscored that long-term sustainable development can be reached via an inclusive green economy ensuring job creation, eradicating poverty and protecting natural resource bases.
19 April 2012: The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has entered into an agreement with the Government of China that aims to strengthen their cooperation in environmental protection and other areas of mutual interest.
