UNEP Launches Global Sustainable Consumption and Production Clearinghouse [viewed]

scp21 May 2013: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in its role as Secretariat of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP 10YFP), has launched The Global SCP Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse uses social networking principles to create a “one-stop hub” for SCP knowledge and cooperation.

ICT Symposium Adopts Roadmap on Smart, Sustainable Cities [viewed]

ITU logo9 May 2013: Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are critical in creating smart sustainable cities and addressing climate change, according to participants at the Eighth International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Symposium on ICTs, the Environment and Climate Change. Participants adopted a 'Turin Roadmap' that calls on ITU to promote smart technologies in cities and develop key performance indicators to assess ICTs impacts in cities and countries around the world.

UNDP Reports on Environment and Sustainable Development Work in 2008-2012 [viewed]

UNDPApril 2013: The UN Development Programme's (UNDP) Environment and Energy Group (EEG) has released a report, titled ‘Towards Transformational Change: UNDP's Work in Environment and Sustainable Development 2008-2012.' The publication features a collection of stories from around the world in four strategic areas: mainstreaming environment and energy; mobilizing environmental finance; promoting adaptation to climate change; and expanding access to environmental and energy services for the poor.

UNEP and the Russian Federation Partner on Green Economy [viewed]

UNEP16 April 2013: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has announced that it has signed a bilateral agreement with the Government of the Russian Federation, covering priority environmental areas including: biodiversity conservation; the environmental aspects of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics; and environmental challenges facing the Arctic.

Event: 25th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol [viewed]

MOP 25 is scheduled to consider a number of issues, including nominations for critical- and essential-use exemptions. On 3 May 2013, the Ozone Secretariat announced the change in venue from Kiev (Kyiv), Ukraine to Bangkok, Thailand. The dates are unchanged.

Asia-Pacific 3R Forum Adopts Waste Management Goals [viewed]

23 March 2013: The Fourth Regional 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) Forum in Asia and the Pacific convened in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, from 18-20 March 2013, addressing the theme of “3Rs in the Context of the Rio+20 Outcomes – The Future We Want.” The meeting focused on waste minimization, reuse and recycling issues in various sectors, including agriculture, industry and energy. It also adopted the Ha Noi 3R Declaration, which sets out 30 waste management goals to be achieved by 2023.

IKEA Announces BCtA Commitment to Use Better Cotton [viewed]

15 March 2013: The IKEA Group of Sweden announced a new commitment under the Business Call to Action (BCtA), a global initiative hosted by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) that supports private sector efforts to fight poverty through business. Through its BCtA commitment, IKEA aims to provide consumers with sustainably farmed cotton that uses fewer chemicals, pesticides and water without charging consumers a premium.
