UN-NGLS Releases Policy Briefs on Gender Equality, Oceans and Seas [viewed]

NGLS3 February 2013: Based on consultations with civil society, the UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS) has produced two papers to inform the eighth session of the UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The issue briefs highlight recommendations from civil society members on oceans and seas, and gender equality and women's human rights, topics for discussion at OWG 8.

AU Summit Focuses on Agriculture as Key for Africa's Future [viewed]

africanunionlogo31 January 2014: The Assembly of Heads and State and Government adopted a number of key decisions at the 22nd Annual African Union (AU) Summit, which took place under the theme ‘Agriculture and Food Security.' The Assembly adopted decisions on, inter alia, the Common African Position on the Post-2015 Development Agenda, the 2050 Africa Integrated Maritime (AIM) Strategy plan, desertification, ending hunger, health, partnerships, peace and security, statistics and trade.

World Economic Forum Focuses on Climate Change, Post-2015 [viewed]

World Economic Forum25 January 2014: The 44th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) focused on 'The Reshaping of the World: Consequences for Society, Politics and Business.' Many speeches, events and presentations throughout the meeting centered on the impacts of climate change and global poverty, while participants looked forward to an ambitious post-2015 development agenda to address many of these challenges.

GGKP Launches Green Growth Knowledge-Sharing Website [viewed]

Green Growth22 January 2014: The Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) has launched its knowledge-sharing platform and opened an office in Geneva, Switzerland. The events were marked with a high-level panel debate, titled 'Green Economy and Green Growth: Passing Fad or Future Paradigm?' The GGKP is a consortium of institutions and organizations working to identify and address knowledge gaps on green growth theory and practice.

Rural Energy Access Conference Addresses Problems of the Energy-Poor [viewed]

United Nations8 January 2014: The UN-organized 'Global Conference on Rural Energy Access: A Nexus Approach to Sustainable Development and Poverty Eradication' addressed problems of the “energy-poor” and discussed solutions such as stand-alone renewable electricity systems and advanced cook stoves. The conference concluded with a call for a “nexus approach” to integrating energy access in national sustainable development plans and across the post-2015 development agenda.
