Europe and Central Asia Recommend Addressing Inequalities in Post-2015 Agenda [viewed]

UNECE8 November 2013: Participants called for ending increasing inequalities in Europe and Central Asia at a High-level conference, titled ‘Inclusive and Sustainable Development: Perspectives from Europe and Central Asia on the Post-2015 Development Agenda.' The conference represented the culmination of a series of national consultations on the post-2015 development agenda across the region and brought stakeholders together to review regional experiences from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), identify regional priorities, and agree on a regional perspective for the post-2015 agenda.

ECLAC Body to Strengthen Measurement of Poverty, South-South Cooperation [viewed]

ECLAC7 November 2013: The Seventh Meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas (SCA), a subsidiary body of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), met from 5-7 November 2013, in Santiago, Chile. Heads of national statistical institutes in Latin America and the Caribbean agreed to: strengthen the measurement of poverty, public security and justice, South-South cooperation and disability; and improve gender equality indicators.

UN, World Bank, EU Pledge Support to Sahel [viewed]

un-worldbank8 November 2013: Development leaders traveled to the Sahel region in Africa to discuss governance, resilience, peace and security with the leaders of Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali and Niger. During the trip, from 4-8 November 2013, the World Bank and EU announced over US$8 billion in investments to boost economic growth and tackle poverty in the region.

Event: Rural Energy Access: A Nexus Approach to Sustainable Development and Poverty Eradication [viewed]

UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA), in collaboration with Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL), UN-Energy and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), is organizing this event to strengthen capacities on policy, technical and entrepreneurial approaches to rural energy access for eradicating poverty. Specific objectives of the conference include, among others: promoting dialogue among practitioners, experts, donors and policy-makers; assessing potential integrated policy options to address rural energy poverty; identify synergies between energy and other development factors including health, education, economic growth, gender, water and food security; discussing ways to apply models and practices to scale-up clean cookstoves and renewable energy home systems; and supporting the Rio+20 follow-up process and the post-2015 development agenda.
