Second Committee Approves Text on Strengthening UNEP [viewed]

7 December 2012: The UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Second Committee (Economic and Financial) has approved draft resolution A/C.2/67/L.44 on the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). The text addresses the report of the UNEP Governing Council's 12th special session, as well as the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) outcome on the environmental pillar.

Post-2015 HLP Agrees on 24 Framing Questions [viewed]

The World We Want 201530 November 2012: The UN Secretary-General's High-level Panel (HLP) on the Post-2015 Agenda has developed a list of 24 "framing questions" for its discussions. The questions focus on: lessons learned and context; the shape of a post-2015 development framework; themes and content of a new framework; partnerships and accountability for development; and shaping global consensus for the goals.

Event: Third International Conference for Small Island Developing States [viewed]

The Third International Conference for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) is scheduled to convene from 1-4 September 2014, in Samoa. This conference will include a high-level segment to build upon the Barbados Programme of Action (BPOA) and the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation (MSI), and will identify new challenges for the sustainable development of SIDS. According to UN General Assembly resolution A/67/L.66, "The General Assembly, recalling its resolution 67/207 of 21 December 2012, in which it welcomed the offer of the Government of the Independent State of Samoa to host the third International Conference on Small Island Developing States in 2014, decides that the third International Conference on Small Island Developing States shall be held from 1 to 4 September 2014 in Apia, to be preceded by activities related to the Conference from 28 to 30 August 2014, also in Apia". In addition, a Partnerships Forum will take place on 30-31 August.
