Event: World Congress on Water, Climate and Energy [viewed]
This meeting is the inaugural meeting of the Congress on Water, Climate and Energy, and participants will explore the topics of resilient and sustainable cities with a focus on climate change adaptation and mitigation. The meeting will further examine how to incorporate climate change adaptation and uncertainty into the city vision and infrastructure, and will include solutions such as the role of regulation, technologies and smart networks. The meeting is organized by the International Water Association in partnership with the UN World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP), the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), and ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability.
February 2012: The International Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement (INECE) has launched a redesigned website. The website is designed to support the global community of environmental compliance and enforcement practitioners through capacity building tools, research and country case examples.
8 February 2012: UN-Water has announced that Michel Jarraud, World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Secretary-General, and Albert Diphoorn, UN-Habitat Urban Basic Services Branch Coordinator, are taking up the positions as Chair and Vice-Chair, respectively, of UN-Water for a two-year term. 
6 February 2012: The 18th session of the Forum of Environment Ministers (FME 18) of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) focused much of its debate, as well as parts of its Quito Declaration and various Decisions, on the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). FME 18 also adopted a decision on small island developing States (SIDS) as related to the institutional framework for sustainable development (IFSD), one of the themes of Rio+20.
30 January 2012: The Elders, an independent group of global leaders who work together for peace and human rights, have called on Heads of State to deliver on their commitment to a more equitable, sustainable world, stressing that “business as usual is no longer acceptable.”
2 February 2012: The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has released a book titled “Greening Development: Enhancing Capacity for Environmental Management,” which outlines principles and steps for "greening" national development planning, national budgetary processes and key economic sector strategies.
30 January 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has circulated a draft of its Medium-Term Strategy (MTS) 2014-2017 to organizations accredited to UNEP. The MTS is intended to guide the work of UNEP for the four-year period and provide a framework for measuring progress, achievements and results.
