This meeting is the inaugural meeting of the Congress on Water, Climate and Energy, and participants will explore the topics of resilient and sustainable cities with a focus on climate change adaptation and mitigation. The meeting will further examine how to incorporate climate change adaptation and uncertainty into the city vision and infrastructure, and will include solutions such as the role of regulation, technologies and smart networks. The meeting is organized by the International Water Association in partnership with the UN World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP), the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), and ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability.

6 February 2012: The 18th session of the Forum of Environment Ministers (FME 18) of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) focused much of its debate, as well as parts of its Quito Declaration and various Decisions, on the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). FME 18 also adopted a decision on small island developing States (SIDS) as related to the institutional framework for sustainable development (IFSD), one of the themes of Rio+20.

The IFAD Executive Board is the Fund's second main Governing Body, consisting of 18 elected Members and 18 Alternate Members. The International Fund for Agricultural Development will hold its two-day Governing Council meeting as a forum for member States, partners and the public to discuss and debate what needs to be done to enable smallholder farmers to contribute to raising food availability by 70% by 2050.
