Pacific Countries Agree on EPA Negotiations with EU [viewed]

PIFS12 April 2014: The Pacific countries from the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) have requested an Economic Participation Agreement (EPA) negotiation with the EU by the end of April 2014, following a discussion of outstanding issues among the Pacific ACP countries. Officials emphasized that the EPA provisions should promote the sustainable development of the region's fisheries, while ensuring that Pacific peoples benefit from fisheries trade.

The report focuses on the City Development Strategy (CDS) as a tool to integrate environmental issues into city planning while reducing poverty, promoting inclusive economic growth and ensuring sustainable consumption and production (SCP).

ESCAP Evaluation Week Calls for Strengthening National Capacities [viewed]

UNESCAP9 April 2014: A high-level panel discussion on Evaluation and the Post-2015 Development Agenda took place during UN Evaluation Week at the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). Panelists urged countries in the region to strengthen national evaluation capacities and adopt better monitoring and evaluation tools, in view of the emerging post-2015 development agenda.

Pacific Ministers Recommend Including Transport in SDGs [viewed]

SPC7 April 2014: Transport and energy are key enablers for development, according to participants at the second Pacific Regional Energy and Transport (Aviation and Maritime) Ministers Meeting, organized by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC). Pacific ministers adopted the Denerau Communiqué, which calls for including transport in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Event: Informal Meeting for Summit on Post-2015 Development Agenda [viewed]

The UN General Assembly will hold an informal meeting on the organizational modalities for the September 2015 summit to adopt the post-2015 development agenda. The co-facilitators for intergovernmental consultations ahead of the Summit are Ib Petersen, Permanent Representative of Denmark, and Robert Guba Aisi, Permanent Representative of Papua New Guinea (PNG). Governments agreed to hold the summit, which will take place at the level of Heads of State and Government, in the outcome document of the Special Event to follow-up on efforts made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) (Resolution 68/6), held on 25 September 2013. At the first informal consultations, governments are invited to exchange ideas on duration and timing, format and structure, participation, preparation and outcome of the Summit.

Event: World Green Economy Summit 2014 [viewed]

The World Green Economy Summit 2014 (WGES) is an initiative of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and will be held under the leadership of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), in conjunction with the water, energy and environment technologies exhibition 'WETEX 2014'. Summit partners include the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Global Energy Initiative, the CEO Platform for Green Growth in the Middle East and North Africa, and the Clean Energy Business Council. WGES is organized around the theme 'Global Partnerships, Sustainable Future'. It will constitute the first green economy summit in the Middle East and North Africa region, and will link up to the global efforts in securing a climate agreement in 2015 at UNFCCC COP 21.

OECD Reports Development Aid at All-Time High [viewed]

OECD_NEW8 April 2014: Development aid reached its highest level in 2013, according to an annual survey of donor spending plans by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Development Assistance Committee (DAC). Donors provided US$134.8 billion in net official development assistance (ODA) in 2013, a 6.1% increase in development aid in real terms.

EU, China Discuss Climate Change, Post-2015 Development Agenda [viewed]
