UN Secretary-General Announces Advisory Group on Data Revolution [viewed]

United Nations29 August 2014: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has announced the establishment of a 24-member Independent Expert Advisory Group (IEAG) on the Data Revolution for Sustainable Development, to provide recommendations on closing data gaps and strengthening national statistical capacities for the post-2015 development agenda. The Group is expected to report to the Secretary-General later this year, as input to his synthesis report ahead of intergovernmental negotiations on the post-2015 agenda.

Major Groups Focus on Durable Partnerships for Sustainable Development [viewed]

sids.conference.iisdrs29 August 2014: The Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) pre-conference for Major Groups and other Stakeholders Forum focused on identifying durable partnerships to promote sustainable development. The Forum resulted in an outcome statement, titled ‘The SIDS Accelerated Modalities of Action (S.A.M.O.A) Pathway: Engaging for a Sustainable Future,' which calls on governments to use a human rights and development framework to underpin all action plans, and underscores environmental sustainability, economic justice, gender equality and human rights as critical components in pursuing sustainable development.

Acharya Recommends 50% of ODA for LDCs [viewed]

The meeting was the second in a series of regional consultations on accountability organized by the UN regional commissions.

ESCAP Launches 70-Year Review of Social, Economic Development [viewed]

UNESCAP6 August 2014: The UN Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) launched a 70-year review of social and economic development in the region, on the sidelines of its 70th session in Bangkok, Thailand. Titled ‘Asia and the Pacific: A Story of Transformation and Resurgence,' the review is a "survey of surveys" that traces the story of development in the region, based on ESCAP's annual Economic and Social Surveys since 1947, when the Commission was known as the Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East (ECAFE).
