Event: Informal Meeting for Summit on Post-2015 Development Agenda [viewed]

The UN General Assembly will hold an informal meeting on the organizational modalities for the September 2015 summit to adopt the post-2015 development agenda. The co-facilitators for intergovernmental consultations ahead of the Summit are Ib Petersen, Permanent Representative of Denmark, and Robert Guba Aisi, Permanent Representative of Papua New Guinea (PNG). Governments agreed to hold the summit, which will take place at the level of Heads of State and Government, in the outcome document of the Special Event to follow-up on efforts made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) (Resolution 68/6), held on 25 September 2013. At the first informal consultations, governments are invited to exchange ideas on duration and timing, format and structure, participation, preparation and outcome of the Summit.

Event: Global Monitoring Report on 'Making Development Cooperation More Effective' [viewed]

The Permanent Missions of Mexico and the United Kingdom (UK) are organizing an event to discuss the global monitoring report on aid effectiveness, which has been released ahead of the First High-Level Meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) that is to take place in Mexico City on 15-16 April 2014. The High-Level Meeting will agree on actions to boost progress, and to anchor effective development cooperation in the post-2015 global development agenda. The Global Partnership facilitates cooperation among governments, business and civil society to end poverty. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) support the Partnership. OECD Reports Development Aid at All-Time High [viewed]

OECD_NEW8 April 2014: Development aid reached its highest level in 2013, according to an annual survey of donor spending plans by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Development Assistance Committee (DAC). Donors provided US$134.8 billion in net official development assistance (ODA) in 2013, a 6.1% increase in development aid in real terms.

UNCTAD Hosts Second Geneva Dialogue on Post-2015 [viewed]

Event: Fourth Global Infrastructure Basel Summit 2014 [viewed]

The fourth GIB Summit will be held at the Congress Center Basel, Switzerland on 21-22 May 2014, and will focus on 'Mainstreaming Sustainability in Infrastructure Finance and Investment'. The 4th Global Infrastructure Basel Summit 2014 will begin with an interactive, participant-centred workshop titled 'Financing Infrastructure Projects in Cities – Avoiding Traps and Achieving Sustainability'. The session will use the case study discussion method to draw out key issues, best practices and useful tools for financing sustainable infrastructure. Round table discussions, workshops, plenaries, and investment forums will provide a unique platform for interaction among global leaders, investors, project developers and practitioners to address issues including: removing the bottleneck of greenfield projects through early-stage financing; creditworthiness of cities; sustainable infrastructure as an asset class; and spurring sustainable infrastructure development with new approaches.

EU-Africa Summit Outlines Actions on Peace and Security, Prosperity and People [viewed]

4th European Union EU-Africa Summit4 April 2014: Delegates to the Fourth EU-Africa Summit agreed on a Declaration outlining commitments on peace and security, prosperity and people. Leaders also adopted a declaration on migration and mobility, and a road map to frame EU-Africa relations in 2014-2017. The EU committed to provide more than €28 billion to Africa through bilateral cooperation.
