Event: 2013 G20 Leaders Summit [viewed]

The Russian Federation has set as the objective of its 2013 Presidency of the Group of 20 (G20): developing a set of measures aimed at boosting sustainable, inclusive and balanced growth and jobs creation around the world. The G20 will look at eight areas in particular in 2013: framework for strong, sustainable and balanced growth; jobs and employment; international financial architecture reform; strengthening financial regulation; energy sustainability; development for all; enhancing multilateral trade; and fighting corruption. The G20 brings together finance ministers and central bank governors from 19 countries - Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK and the US - plus the EU. The G20 Leaders Summit in September 2013 is preceded by a series of outreach events organized in five streams: think tanks; business; labour; civil society and youth.

SEED Initiative Calls for Low-Carbon and Gender Equality Start-Up Enterprises [viewed]

UNODC Underscores Rule of Law for Sustainable Development [viewed]

UNODC26 April 2013: International crime undermines achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and sustainable development, according to Yury Fedotov, Head of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in a statement at the 22nd session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ). The CCPCJ, which was held from 22-26 April 2013, in Vienna, Austria, adopted resolutions on the rule of law in the post-2015 development agenda and on illicit trafficking in protected species of wild fauna and flora, among others.

Global Land Forum Tackles Concept of Territorial Governance for Food Security [viewed]

ILC30 April 2013: The Global Land Forum, organized by the International Land Coalition (ILC) and held in Antigua, Guatemala, from 23-24 April 2013, brought together farmers, indigenous peoples, women's organizations, NGOs, research centers, trade unions, multilateral institutions and governments to discuss the political, economic, environmental and societal linkages between land governance, food security, poverty and democracy.

Event: Consultation on Gender Equality in LAC: Discussion on Priorities and Strategies to Influence the Agenda [viewed]

To respond to the issue of gender inequality, including discrimination of women and violence against women, The World We Want 2015 Website features a consultation process on gender equality in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The consultation aims to initiate an exchange of views on how the post-2015 development agenda “must include gender equality as a priority”. The consultation is divided into different discussion blocks. The last discussion will focus on priorities and strategies to influence the agenda. It will follow and build on elements discussed during the first blocks of the consultation on: progress and challenges for achieving gender equality in the region; structural roots of inequality, discrimination and violence; capacities to make choices; and participation, impact and power.
