Integrating the Environment in Urban Planning and Management: Key Principles and Approaches for Cities in the 21st Century8 April 2014: Rapid urbanization is an opportunity to build more sustainable, equitable and efficient cities and towns, according to ‘Integrating the Environment in Urban Planning and Management: Key Principles and Approaches for Cities in the 21st Century,' a report by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and Cities Alliance. The report focuses on the City Development Strategy (CDS) as a tool to integrate environmental issues into city planning while reducing poverty, promoting inclusive economic growth and ensuring sustainable consumption and production (SCP).

Event: World Green Economy Summit 2014 [viewed]

The World Green Economy Summit 2014 (WGES) is an initiative of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and will be held under the leadership of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), in conjunction with the water, energy and environment technologies exhibition 'WETEX 2014'. Summit partners include the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Global Energy Initiative, the CEO Platform for Green Growth in the Middle East and North Africa, and the Clean Energy Business Council. WGES is organized around the theme 'Global Partnerships, Sustainable Future'. It will constitute the first green economy summit in the Middle East and North Africa region, and will link up to the global efforts in securing a climate agreement in 2015 at UNFCCC COP 21.

OECD Reports Development Aid at All-Time High [viewed]

OECD_NEW8 April 2014: Development aid reached its highest level in 2013, according to an annual survey of donor spending plans by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Development Assistance Committee (DAC). Donors provided US$134.8 billion in net official development assistance (ODA) in 2013, a 6.1% increase in development aid in real terms.

UNEP Releases Study on Water in Post-Conflict Situations [viewed]

UNEP18 March 2014: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) released a study, titled ‘Water and Post-Conflict Peacebuilding,' which examines the role of clean water delivery in peace-building operations. The study highlights the impacts of conflict on water management and infrastructure, noting that failure to provide access to clean water post conflict causes health problems, limits livelihoods and weakens state legitimacy.

Partnership for Action on a Green Economy Holds Inaugural Meeting [viewed]
