The Russian Federation has set as the objective of its 2013 Presidency of the Group of 20 (G20): developing a set of measures aimed at boosting sustainable, inclusive and balanced growth and jobs creation around the world. The G20 will look at eight areas in particular in 2013: framework for strong, sustainable and balanced growth; jobs and employment; international financial architecture reform; strengthening financial regulation; energy sustainability; development for all; enhancing multilateral trade; and fighting corruption. The G20 brings together finance ministers and central bank governors from 19 countries - Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK and the US - plus the EU. The G20 Leaders Summit in September 2013 is preceded by a series of outreach events organized in five streams: think tanks; business; labour; civil society and youth.

29 April 2013: The UN Regional Coordination Mechanism in Asia-Pacific has launched the Zero Hunger Challenge for the region, calling on governments, farmers, scientists, business, civil society and consumers to work together to end hunger in the region, where the majority of the world's undernourished people live. The launch took place on the sidelines of the 69th Commission Session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), on 29 April 2013, in Bangkok, Thailand.

April 2013: The “Asia and the Pacific Parliamentarian and Civil Society Organization (CSO) Forum on Millennium Development Goal (MDG) Acceleration and the Post-2015 Development Agenda” resulted in a Bali Declaration on accelerating the MDGs and the post-2015 development agenda. It asserts that the post-2015 framework should be based on: human rights, democracy and good governance; equality and non-discrimination; sustainable development; and quality public service delivery.

24 April 2013: The Asian and Pacific Regional Implementation Meeting (RIM) on Rio+20 Outcomes discussed regional perspectives and follow-up to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), such as the establishment of a high-level political forum (HLPF) to replace the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD), and the development of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

April 2013: The report of the 15th session of the UN Committee for Development Policy (CDP), which convened from 18-22 March 2013, in New York, US, has been released. According to the report, the session addressed: the role of science, technology and innovation (STI) in achieving sustainable development; the vulnerabilities and development needs of small island developing States (SIDS); emerging issues in international development in the post-2015 era; issues related to the least developed countries (LDCs), including guidelines regarding graduation from the LDC category; and monitoring the development progress of Samoa, which is expected to graduate in 2014.
