ESCAP Head Urges Media to Increase Engagement on Sustainable Development
29 May 2012: UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Executive Secretary Noeleen Heyzer has issued a five-point call for action, urging the media to increase its engagement on sustainable development issues. Heyzer made the call at the Asia Media Summit, which convened in Bangkok, Thailand, from 29-30 May 2012.
According to UN ESCAP, Heyzer told Summit participants that they should write more sustainable development stories that "connect the dots" by dealing with climate change, disaster, food scarcity, and energy waste. She underscored the need for resources to build the capacity of journalists to pursue development stories. [UNESCAP Press Release] [Asia Media Summit Website]
