GEF, Chemicals Conventions Join Forces

16 August 2012: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Secretariat and the Secretariat of the chemicals conventions participated in a joint retreat hosted by GEF CEO Naoko Ishii, during which they re-commited to joint work to achieve co-benefits for the sound management of chemicals.

The GEF operates as Financial Mechanism of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). The Stockholm Convention is administered by the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, headed by Jim Willis.

Over the two-day retreat, a work plan was agreed to strengthen the regional delivery mechanisms of the chemicals cluster, enhance the network of regional centers, engage in joint outreach strategies and perform needs assessment of the conventions. [GEF Press Release]
