UNAIDS Launches E-Discussions on HIV, Health, Post-2015 Agenda
21 January 2013: The Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) is hosting e-discussions on HIV, health and the post-2015 development agenda, as part of the global thematic consultation on health in the post-2015 development agenda. The online consultation is taking place on the World We Want 2015 platform from 21 January-3 February, and will consider ways in which the global AIDS response can inform the post-2015 agenda.
The e-discussion on HIV takes up three themes: the unfinished HIV agenda; AIDS, health and development; and decision-making and accountability. Participants can submit comments and views on World We Want 2015 and on twitter (#health2015). Participants can also send questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The overall global consultation on health aims to: discuss progress made and lessons learned from the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) on health; develop consensus on the role of health in the post-2015 agenda; and propose health goals, targets and indicators for the post-2015 agenda as well as approaches for implementation, measurement and monitoring.
In addition to online discussions, face-to-face consultations will take place, including a civil society consultation on HIV, TB and malaria on 27 January, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and a Central and Eastern Europe Health Consultation on 26-27 January, in Moscow, the Russian Federation. Findings from the e-discussions, meetings and submitted papers will contribute to discussions at the High-level Consultation on Health, which will take place from 5-6 March 2013, in Botswana. This meeting is expected to develop recommendations on addressing health in the post-2015 agenda, to feed into the UN High-level Panel (HLP) on the Post-2015 Development Agenda and the UN Secretary-General's report on post-2015. The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) serve as the co-leaders of the Consultation, with the support of the Governments of Botswana and Sweden.
Health is one of 11 themes being addressed on a global level by the UN Development Group's (UNDG) consultations on the post-2015 development agenda.
